Abu Simbel Temples

The Abu Simbel Temples are two massive rock-cut temples built by Pharaoh Ramses II in the 13th century BC. They are located near Egypt's southern border with Sudan. The larger temple is dedicated to the gods Amun, Ra-Horakhty, and Ptah, as well as to Ramses II himself. The smaller temple honors his wife, Queen Nefertari. In the 1960s, the temples were relocated to higher ground to prevent submersion due to the construction of the Aswan High Dam.
