The Great Sphinx of Giza

The Great Sphinx of Giza is one of the most iconic monuments in Egypt. It is a massive limestone statue with the body of a lion and the head of a human, believed to represent Pharaoh Khafre. The Sphinx stands on the Giza Plateau, near the Great Pyramids. It is about 73 meters long and 20 meters high, making it one of the largest monolithic statues in the world. Historians believe it was carved around 2500 BC. The Sphinx faces directly east and has long been associated with mystery and protection. Over time, it has suffered erosion and damage, especially to its nose. Despite this, it remains a symbol of ancient Egyptian power and wisdom.
